A new boiler can enhance your gas central heating
Icy winds of winter curl through the trees and you huddle at your window, thinking of heating for your house – this season perhaps you should get yourself central heating. By centrally heating your home, you can make it more comfortable, inviting and relaxing.
The two basic types of gas central heating systems are called pumped and vented, both of which are made up of a heating boiler, heating radiators and usually copper pipework.
Popularly used are pumped systems which comprise of a main feed and expansion water tank that heats up and transmits the heat through pipework to secondary heaters (radiators). Provision is made for water to be filled in the expansion tank tank as well as for expansion of the heated water.
There is also what is known as a sealed system in which no centre core is used to heat the radiators. It is basically a closed system, and for this reason, there is no need of water tanks. Chief advantages of vented systems are: there is no risk of leaking water tank; major problems like air locks are also not associated with such systems; furthermore, they are specifically useful in cold countries because there is no risk of freezing pipes.
You may ask why you need central heating and what are its benefits?.
The simple answer is that it will allow you to heat your entire home or office quickly without compromising the air quality. Before the gas central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the home warm or even coal fires. However, these older heating methods make the air sticky and hard, and can also emit an unpleasant odour.
The gas central heating systems are free from all these drawbacks but they need regular maintenance to keep them operating reliably. Many families only use their gas central heating during the cold months and leave them entirely unused during the summer, this is a common error. Instead it is recommended that you gradually bring them into use during autumn so that if you spot any problem you can quickly contact an engineer.
It is also important to remember that most household gas central heating systems allow in dust or air, thus requiring regular drainage. For draining the system just open the valve and keep a bucket below it for water collection, ensure that water doesn’t enter the system when it is being drained.
