Combi-boilers save gas

Evolving economies around the planet on going up need for gas resulting in higher gas costs. One way of reducing heating costs is to survey how you are wasting gas in the home. You could save up to one third on your present-day gas heating bills by installing a condensing gas combi boiler.

A central heating boiler needs to be able to deliver adequate hot water to heat your home and provide hot water for laundry. After fifteen years your boiler will have run its useful life-time and start to become ineffective. If your boiler is nearing the end of its life-time it could be very uneconomical in comparison to newer models. A modern gas fired boiler can be 95% efficient in its use of gas and graded A on the SEDBUK scale whereas your present-day heating boiler may only be 30% efficient.

Observing that this it could be cost effective to exchange your central heating boiler if your current model is nearing the end of its lifespan. You can cut your heating costs significantly if you invest in a new gas efficient boiler. If you do replace your boiler you could consider a gas combination boiler which is ideally suited for the smaller home or houses where there are a limited number of people in the home. A gas combi-boiler draws water through the mains and heats it on demand, doing away with the need for a storage cylinder. Whilst the boiler can provide immediate hot water it will have a limited throughput and will not be able to serve several hot taps at the same time.

If you have a system or regular central heating boiler it will use a hot water cylinder to save hot water produced earlier for use when required later that day. The hot water cylinder is a major source of heat loss in the system leading to inefficiencies. In addition the hot water tank takes up space in the home which could be used for other storage proposes.

A combi-boiler only heats water when hot water is called for and is consequently far more economical than heating boiler types which use a storage tank. The most efficient type of combi boiler is a condensing combi boiler which has an additional heat extract to reclaim the heat in the exhaust gases and use of this to heat your water reducing its energy consumption. Using the reclaimed heat to create hot water leads to additional energy savings.
