Determine what type of central heating boiler you need

Central Heating systems come in various forms. Most of them consist of a set of heating heating radiators, a boiler and copper pipework.

In most parts of the UK air conditioning is hardly needed because of the average temperatures of those regions. Many of us find proper heating a necessity; as a result most of the new homes being constructed today are built with a Gas Central Heating System.

Central Heating is essential, particularly whens winter is heading our way. While blizzards rage on outside, you can be safe and warm on the inside. For this, you need a reliable heating boiler in your Gas Central Heating system. It is important to have peace of mind that your Gas Central Heating System is not only practical to use but also safe.

There are two main types of Gas Central Heating Systems; pumped/vented and sealed systems.

Pumped/vented systems are the most frequent. The pumped/vented Central Heating Systems have an expansion tank and a feed. Hot water from the storage tank supplies your kitchen and bath while also heating up the radiators. When the water expands as it is heated the expansion tank allows for this. It is normally placed at the highest place of the house like the loft area, taking up space. It serves a dual purpose by heating the house and also supplying heated water.

Many homes feature a pumped/vented Gas Central Heating System, particularly the ones constructed several year ago.

A sealed system is now being used in the new houses that are being built. As the name indicates, a sealed system is a an enclosed system therefore no expansion water tanks are needed. There are benefits to have this closed type of system with pipework and tanks being unnecessary.

- As there are no pipes, they cannot freeze up in the loft.

- No maintenance or repair work is required for the pipes and tank which would have been in the loft.

- The risk of leaks is decreased.

- The risk of air locks, corrosion and gunk are reduced because there won’t be any air being taken down into the system through the open holes as the system is sealed.

- If necessary, the system can be flushed out under pressure using the main water supply.

All the required controls and safety devices are incorporated into the sealed Central Heating systems. The mains water supplies the water required for the sealed Central Heating system. It feeds directly from the main water supply.

Normal variations of pressure can be allowed in a sealed system through a pressure vessel that contains compressed gas; this is separated from the sealed system water by a diaphragm. If the pressure is very high in the system, then the water will escape from the safety valve, and if the pressure is too low, then the safety valve will open to let the water in.

Gas Central Heating Systems are worth the money as they are cheaper to run than any other form of heating. They also provide you with complete control which is much more than other heating systems can say about themselves.
