Sealed or Vented systems

Central heating systems have improved and that there are now several different types each with differing benefits and drawbacks according to your requirements. In this segment we will discuss that the variants of central heating system available to help you fit them to your needs. Most if not all of these Central Heating System comprise of a boiler, radiator and pipe work.

In north Europe the primary household system will be the heating system, although there is much talk of planetary warming at the moment there is little mass requirement for air conditioning systems. There are two main variants of Central Heating System; pumped/vented and sealed systems.

pumped or vented systems are the most familiar. A pumped or vented Central Heating System has a hot water cylinder and a feed and expansion tank. In addition to allowing for water expansion when heated the expansion tank also tops up the central heating system with water when required. The loft is most usually used to house the expansion tank as it needs to be high in the house.

A slightly newer, more up-to-date system that many people are choosing over a pumped/vented central heating system is a sealed system. A sealed system, as the name suggests is a closed system so no water tanks are needed. The mains water is used to supply the sealed Central Heating System. This frees your loft of the expansion tank and piping, you get a range of advantages from the elimination of these constituents:

- as the pipework is removed from the loft it will not be at risk of freezing in the wintertime

- your upkeep requirements are reduced as there are fewer parts

- reduces the risk of leaking

- the sealing of the system precludes air entering which could lead to internal corroding or the evolution of an air lock

It is common for the water supply pressure to change and that this is dealt with by incorporating a pressure vessel. Valves allow cold water to enter and top up the system when pressure falls, other safety mechanics open valves if the interior pressure is to high.
